Nibi Wabo Water Ceremony

Saturday, February 13, 2010

This morning I had a visit from Helene who resides in the Magic Blue Bus (our name for it.)  She invited me to be part of the Nibi Wabo Water Ceremony which is held once a year on the first new moon of February.  Helene is a very spiritual woman with Algonquin/ French heritage and she has wonderful karma surrounding her.  She is also very earthy and a lot of fun!

The Nibi Wabo ceremony honours Mother Earth and her waters and is held at the edge of any water body.   As we are here at the edge of the Pacific Ocean it is a perfect place for the ceremony.   The oceans and rivers of the world are under terrible seige from man's pollution and overuse and without water we will all perish.  Heavy stuff!   I was honoured to be asked to participate.

Helene also explained to us that this ceremony would be performed on this day by woman worldwide.

Pat, Rita, Helen and Kathy - Helene explains the ceremony.

Helene's friends arrive for the ceremony.

At about 2pm  Helene, Rita, Pat and two of Helene's other friends all trooped down to the beach.  The ceremony involved the Nibi Wabo song, birch sticks and a burning of  a  smudge pot of sage and .....  The song was sung  seven times ( to the east, west, north, south, above, below and within) while we clacked birch sticks in time.  It was quite lovely.

Blessings!

To the East, West, North, South, Above, Below and Within.

On the way back from the beach we picked up garbage and a gringo man in a truck noticed and commented on what a good idea it was.  As we were six woman walking with Hal,  Helene's significant other,  the man  asked how one man could afford to have six woman in this day and age!  He also wondered if Hal had a favourite so I pointed to Helene!
He thought he was quite funny.

While the women were involved  with the Nibi Wabo ceremony Eric and Sam were busy looking at Sam's Harley.  Was there a problemo, who knows!

Tomorrow Eric and I with Sam and Rita on the Harleys will take a trip to San Ignacio which is about 60 mile northeast of here.  Frank and Sandi will  follow in the jeep and we'll all stop for lunch.
